ONE YARD SHORT OF VICTORY: CAMIONEROS FALL BY THE SLIMMEST MARGIN AGAINST OSOS DE RIVAS (14-13) IN THEIR SERIE A DEBUT
Last Saturday, January 24th, at the Estadio de Atletismo in Rivas-Vaciamadrid, the Camioneros de Coslada played an intense and thrilling Madrid derby corresponding to Week 2 of the LNFA Serie A (Eastern Conference), falling by the narrowest margin to the Osos de Rivas, 14-13.
In a game of high physical and tactical demand, marked by very solid defenses and windy, cold weather that penalized the passing game, both teams relied mainly on the running game to move the chains. After a scoreless first quarter — in which Camioneros suffered the injury loss of linebacker Héctor Martínez (biceps injury after a tackle) — the home team opened the scoring in the second period thanks to a deep pass interference penalty in Coslada territory. Quarterback Anthony Arnou took advantage and connected for a touchdown, capped by the extra point from Lucas Llopis (7-0).
Camioneros responded with character: Sergio Barbero, well protected by a strong offensive line — with Mexican lineman Roy Jurado standing out — found Iván García deep downfield, placing the team in the red zone. From there, Mexican running back Edu Mayen powered through the interior for his first touchdown in Spain, tying the game with Iván Sala’s extra point just before halftime (7-7).
In the second half, Osos regained the lead late in the third quarter with a touchdown by American wide receiver Kyle Jenkins, following a spectacular third-and-15 play in which he broke three tackles and advanced 20 yards to the doorstep of the end zone.
The fourth quarter was filled with tension, with penalties disrupting the flow on both sides. In the final moments, Camioneros returned to the red zone thanks to another strong run by Edu Mayen, cutting the deficit to 14-13. Iván Sala attempted the extra point to tie the game, but it was deflected by the opposing defense… albeit illegally, granting a new attempt from the one-and-a-half-yard line.
With courage, head coach Azael Asensi chose to go for the touchdown and extra point that would secure the victory. Edu Mayen took the handoff and launched into contact, but a slight slip and the tight Osos defense prevented the decisive advance. The game ended with the home team celebrating a hard-fought 14-13 victory.
Despite the loss, Camioneros showed a high competitive level in their Serie A debut. Edu Mayen was named “Agencia Logística” MVP of the offense, while Pablo Gómez earned the CRANE Worldwide MVP on defense.
After the game, head coach Azael Asensi stated: “It was just one point, one yard. In Coslada, on our field, it will be time to take revenge.” Edu Mayen added: “The Gods of Football always grant a rematch.”
Camioneros return to work with their sights set on the next game. The team thanks the fans who traveled to Rivas for their support and encourages everyone to keep pushing throughout the season.
